Local commercial brokers see bright spots

The news wasn’t all bad Friday morning, as local commercial real estate professionals gathered for the annual CCIM/NAIOP Market Review.
Brokers crunched the numbers of the local industrial, office, apartment and retail real estate markets for several hundred gathered at The Harbert Center. And, the common thread between the four sectors was low unemployment equates to higher vacancy, lower rents and fewer sources of capital.
Mark Byers, industrial broker with EGS Commercial Real Estate, reported that of the 64 markets that its partner Cushman Wakefield tracks, Birmingham had the second highest level of vacancy in industrial properties, at nearly 23 percent.
