Report: Birmingham retail occupancy flat in 1Q

Occupancy in Birmingham’s retail real estate market remained flat in the first quarter, according to a report released Friday.

With positive absorption of more than 9,200 square feet of space, retail real estate occupancy in the area hit 87.4 percent, which is higher than the 86.8 percent in the first quarter of last year, but lower than the 88 percent reported in the previous quarter, according to EGS Commercial Real Estate’s quarterly report.

Regional and super regional shopping centers had the highest occupancy for the quarter at 88.4 percent, followed by community and power centers at 88.1 percent, specialty centers at 86.1 percent and neighborhood centers at 85.5 percent.
