Commercial real estate deals often illustrate a sign of the times or the transformation of a community.
Brookwood Pharmaceuticals’ acquisition of the former Saks Inc. corporate headquarters is one of those instances.
The $12 million deal bridged the gap between a company that was once a landmark Birmingham retailer and a relatively new biotech firm that is helping transform the area’s economy today.
Bill Pradat, president of EGS Commercial Real Estate Inc., who represented the seller – Belk Inc., which acquired the firm when it purchased Saks – said it was an interesting deal to work on because the property was designed for a unique user.
